SPC Names Dr. Solomon K. Nfor as Minnie Stevens Piper Nominee

On Jan. 11, 2025, St. Philip’s College (SPC) announced that Instructor Dr. Solomon Nfor has been named as the college’s nominee for the Minnie Stevens Piper Professor award. Dr. Nfor has been a faculty member at the college since 2005.
Dr. Nfor holds a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and a master’s degree in Zoology from the University of Buea, where he served as a teaching assistant. After completing his education in Cameroon, he worked as a lab technologist before relocating to the United States. He went on to earn a master’s degree in Biotechnology from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a Ph.D. in Higher Education from the University of the Incarnate Word.
Dr. Nfor is deeply committed to improving policies and practices that enhance the student experience. He believes in the power of education, viewing it as a pathway to enlightenment, career advancement, financial stability, and better health outcomes. Dr. Nfor also sees education as a means to foster global citizenship and collaboration across diverse groups.
His work at St. Philip’s College includes the creation of initiatives like Jessica’s Project, a program that enhances student learning and leadership opportunities. In addition, Dr. Nfor has championed study-abroad programs in Cameroon, providing students with unique, hands-on learning experiences.
Outside of the classroom, Dr. Nfor founded the PPFA Foundation in honor of his father, which provides educational and healthcare resources, as well as scholarships to institutions in Cameroon. Through partnerships like The Links San Antonio Chapter, Dr. Nfor has expanded the foundation’s reach and impact.
“I am honored to have been nominated twice as a Minnie Stevens Piper Professor,” Dr. Nfor said. “My commitment to excellence is unwavering, and I am humbled to receive such acknowledgment. Notably, unlike awards, nominations cannot be taken away, and I am proud to possess this distinction.”
